    Hi,

I am planning a disaster recovery plan for our windows server 2003 member server. I would like to make sure that i am taking the correct back up. Basically what i want is that if the server is completely dead i would like to get in a new one with the same hardware and restore the new server to be identical to the old one (including applications etc.). Thus if i take back up of System state data (monthly? or daily?) and full back up of data would that be sufficient?

    Thanks and Regards

    Alan

Currently, your best option is probably to use a back up system that creates and maintains an image of your server's hard disk. For example Acronis True Image 9.1 Enterprise Server. These systems provide fast and reliable restoration (though any backup system is only as reliable as the back up medium). Acronis isn't the only option as this google search demonstrates, so a little research on your part would be well spent.

Although I haven't used Acronis on a server, I've been 'playing' with Acronis 10 on Vista all day yesterday... I think I cloned my OS drive about 4 times back & forth :) worked perfectly every time.
