Disappearing Task bar icons & Start button

    When I start a couple of programs, one being Word Perfect 2000,
    the Task bar icons and start button will disappear. The only way to get them back is to restart. This happens on a couple of new Gateways with Win 2000/SP3. Gateway said oh well.
    Any ideas?

    First thing I'd do is a full virus/trojan scan.
