I haven't posted here for a long time. Not since the site got hacked. But I remember getting this problem fixed before. Here's what happens. If you ever install Adaptec DirectCD on your PC and if for some reason you remove the CDRW drive at some point you just might lose the CDROM drives on the Win9x (?) or 2K desktop. There's a fix to fully remove the Adaptec stuff or more correctly changes it made, in the registry but I'll be damned if I can find it. Someone please help.

Today what I have is an IBM 6269 with Win2k, all the patches, an HP 9500CDRW and a Liteon CDR. The CD drives on the Secondary IDE. This is a new box with no other apps installed. Foolish me I insatalled HP software included with the HP9510 CDRW and.. blooey!!! No CD drives in win2K anymore. Try removing the software and no way. Device manager says cannot load the drivers for this device code 31.

    Anybody?
