Miss msconfig (was an easy way to disable running app's in order to defrag, large download, etc.)

Have read (not on MS site) beware 3rd party app's like Start Up Cop and others when working with the newest Windows O/S's.

2K has Task Manager with an ability to disable running app's. My running stuff is never listed as I understand 2K considers them "services ", not app's.

What method is being recommended for temp suspension of running app's so you can get your business done? Thanks.

    W2K IE6

StartupCop still works for me in XP Home. Do you have anything specific about problems with it?

All I have found wrong is, it won't restart automatically when I ask it to but that's little bother.

edit;;;; I just checked the download site and it is now listing XP as an acceptable platform for the cop. I'll download it and see if the version has changed but I didn't notice any mentionof that.

edit#2;;; Dummy me, there is a new version available at the site. The old one was ver. 1.0.1.0 and the new one is 1.1.0.0 so it's easy to see why a dislexic dummy would think it was the same. I installed it and now the automatic reboot works again. :D I'm a happy man!

Here's the link for anyone interested in StartupCop.
