    hey guys...

i just got a new laptop and seem to have this "problem" only with my laptop. But when i try to edit in a field in IE and italicize by pressing Ctrl-I, the Favorites sidebar pops up. Is there any way to disable the internet explorer shortcut key or enable italics?

    thanks for all ur help!

    matt

KrnMackMattsta-- You mention IE in your post, but do you really mean OE?
(Not too often you can modify text on an IE page.)
Concerning the Control+I problem, my PC does the exact same thing as you describe in IE. ( Never knew that. :) )
Perhaps another sign that IE does not provide for modifying text by highlighting a section of a page.
But when you are in a New Message window in OE, right below the Subject line there should be a tool bar with B, I, U, A. The B stands for Bold, the I for Italics, the U for Underline and the A is a drop down for color. When you highlight any part of an OE message and click on the toolbar item you want, that should format the highlighted part.
Of course maybe Control +I works as it should when you are in OE.
P.S. You can modify fonts in an IE page.
    "From IE Help
To display Web page text in a different font

In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
On the General tab, click Fonts.
In the Web page font and Plain text font lists, click the fonts you want. "

There are several more such hints in IE Help. Look under Text on the Index tab.

KrnMackMattsta--I understand my earlier suggestions did not help.
Did you look in IE Help? As mentioned, you can change fonts in IE (to an italicized font if desired), but this would be globally and not just for highlighted words. You can italicize individual words in OE, of course.
Just what sort of editing are you trying to do in IE? Are you saying you could italicize individual words on an IE webpage with an earlier PC?
I am aware of Web Accessories (supposedly only for IE5x, but many work in IE6) which permits a few modifications
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/previous/webaccess/ie5wa.mspx
But I have never been able to modify individual words on a web page, except for underlining.
Or are you talking about your own website, where you can access and modify the code?
