I have had problems with my video adapter, and I was found out the AGP fast write lowers system stability. So I have decided to disable it but I don't know how. Also, I want to update my bios, but I don't even know how to find out what type of Bios I have. I hope someone can help.

    Windows XP Home
    Compaq Presario 5000
    750 MHz AMD Duron
    256 MB RAM
    Nvidia GeForce4 MX 4000

    Go to:

    http://www.esupport.com/biosagent

and download Bios Agent. It will tell you what you have.
After that, you can ask them to recomend a new bios

    Hope this helps

Don't know what went wrong, but you can call them and see if they have a fix for your problem

First have a look at this web page. It tells you how to identify the model of your Presario. I know you said it's a 5000 but there's a bunch of different 5000 series Presarios and when you update your bios you want to make sure you have the right one.

Once you've looked at that, go here for instructions for updating the bios and you'll also find a link there to a page where you can download the bios update.

thanx zander, I'll write back when I'm done. What about AGP fast writes, any idea on how to turn that off?

Well, apparently I don’t have a BIOS but I have a RomPaq. Does anyone know anything about this, and how can I disable "AGP Fast Writes" with the RomPaq? I’m totally confused!

It would appear that the RomPaq is your bios update. This is a quote from the second web page I linked to.
As for disabling AGP fast writes, it should be in the bios somewhere. Can't say for sure where your's would be but I'd start by looking in the advanced chipset features.
