I upgraded my DirectX to 9.0a. Now when I run Dxdiag under DirectX Files it shows a yellow exclamation mark by 'directx.cpl,5.03.000.0900,Final Debug' and below reads 'The file directx.cpl is a debug version, which will run slower than the retail version'. Is this something I should be concerned about? Thanks

Probably not :D , but where did you get your version of 9a from ?

*.cpl files are Control Panel Extensions.

Interestingly running Dxdiag on my m/c (XP Pro + SP1) does not show that file and DirectX does not show up in the Control Panel.

My version DirectX 9.0a (4.09.0000.0901) - from, as I recall, a cover CD, which would be retail version I guess.

Don't lose any sleep over it.

Hi Pete, I made a fresh install of XP Home. DirectX 9.0a was among the many updates listed on the 'Windows Update' site. Thanks.....By the way,did I read somewhere that the 9.0a version purposely left out something that was included in the 9.0 version due to a lawsuit?...Java,Flash? I'm not sure. Anyway,if so will I then need to download that seperately? Thanks again

    Hi,

Glad you sorted that out :)
