Direct connect

I am sort of new to networking but have configured afew through a hub/router. But I was told that I could not connect 2 computers via direct cat5 cable connection the same way I do connecting through a hub. The pin out sequence is different. The way I crimp the cat 5 wires for networking through a hub is brown/brown white,blue,green,green white,blue white, orange, orange white. This works every time but I need to know the correct sequence for direct connection without a hub. Thanks for the help
