I have run into this problem several times and not sure what causes this.
When moving pictures from my digital camera to my hard drive many pictures will only move half of the picture. The top half of the picture will be good and the bottom half will be grayed out.
When I go back and look at the picture on the camera all will be fine and the whole picture will be their. Most of the time I can move it again and it will move the picture with no problem. Sometimes I have to copy it two or thre time before I get the whole picture.
I kept thinking that the problem was with my Vista or my computer until last night.
A friend of mine had taken pictures of my grand daughter and had them stored on his Vista computer.
I had him copy all the pictures to a thumb drive so I could put them on my computer.
He had the same problem. All the pictures were fine on his computer but when copied to the thumb drive many were grayed out just like what happens on my computer.
The only thing in common between the computers is Vista.
Has this been a problem for any body else.

Have you tried moving/copying any photo files and formatting the memory card? That would probably be what the camera manufacturer would recommend. You could check the FAQs at their website.

Assuming both are by USB, look for updated USB controller drivers. They are usually bundled with the chipset drivers.

Some computers have USB 1.1 ports at the front, 2.0 at the back, so use those at the back. If using a USB hub, a self-powered type would be recommended.

This problem happens copying from the camera, copying to a flash drive, and even copying from one folder to another.
It doesn't happen with all pictures but if you moved or copied 10 pictures 3 or 4 will be messed up. You can copy the same pictures that ******* up and they might fix them self.
I was convinced the problem was my computer until my buddy had the same problem. He also has Vista.

I don't know why I got the stars in my message as I didn't say a bad word.

I might not be able to add much more.

Did all the photos come from a camera. Can you test some you got from the internet or a known "good" source. I might wonder if they got partially corrupted when they were transferred (over USB) then can get further corrupted when moving them around.

Do you use Vista to transfer the photos or some sort of camera software? If camera software, investigate that.

Is transferring small quantities at a time any different to large quantities?

I suspect you used the word - s_crewed? The BBS software considers that 'inadmissable' because of it's other connotations :)

It is a word included in the automated "censor" on the BBS. Edit it to something else if you wish.

I just installed Picasa. As it was building its library it came to the folder that has the pictures that are giving me a problem. As I watched Picasa it showed all the pictures in that folder. All the pictures were perfect for about 30 secs. Then they went back to being grayed out in the lower half. Could it be a problem with what ever Vista uses to view the files. I will say that Irfanview shows the picture the same as Vista.
