Difficulty with attachments in Hotmail

Anyone have this prob.......
We are using XP and IE 6.0.
We get our mail with Hotmail. When someone sends an attachment, the mail comes through perfectly, with the correct attachment noted. If I hit "open" it opens (for example) Word but is unable to open the doc. If I save the attachment, and then try to open it in word, it opens fine.
Any ideas?

Is it just one type of attachment, or all?ie. .doc, .pps,etc

 

Jpg's open automatically in the mail, however, Word and Excel doc's don't open at all. I don't believe that we get any other types through hotmail.

 

What version of Office are you using?

I have had the same problem with pps files. Even though they come through, hotmail limits size of files to 1mb.
