HI, I have searched your site for answers to my problem but to no avail. I updated my Internet Explorer to the "6" version a couple of months ago. Everything has been fine up until the other day when I decided to bid on something on Ebay. Only part of the following page loads and I can't continue. Usually, I get the heading and then a line or two of html coding. Incidentally, I have been corresponding with them and they don't seem to have an answer either. So far, I have repaired my internet explorer, reinstalled it, cleared history, cookies, etc. etc. Also have checked all Java script settings. Anyone got any ideas out there? Is it me or is it them?!

    Hi Adele2001
Have you got ie set to check if its the default browser
That may have nothing to do woth anything but
have you tried setting that site as trusted.
(And enable third party cookies )
Im able to bid on ebay without eigther but I started with ie 5.5
If you began with an earlyer version of ie and windows you might try updating the vm it's at the win update center
and also the sunjava script http://java.sun.com/j2se/
They both work its safe to have both.

Since I dont know you os be sure an check this one
Download and install the latest version of Script engine
    http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/vbscript/scripting.asp

I just rememberd something when we went to ebay to bid
we had to log on either with theirs or ms passport theirs didnt work for us we used passport --Mayhap that's what your talking about??
Also make sure your popupblocker (if have one) isnt blocking something.

Thank you for your suggestions. So far, I have downloaded and installed complete Internet Explorer 6 package. I have downloaded and installed Java Virtual Machine. I have signed into the site using a Passport.

First time round, I was able to bid on one of the items I wanted. Thought it was fixed!

But then I went to bid on another item and now the same problem is occurring.

    Any other ideas?

Adele2001--I understand you can access the first page on eBay OK, but then have only a partial load of a second.
How are you trying access the second page? Left click on a hyperlink, or right click on a hyperlink and then click Open in New Window? If you have been using only one, try the other. Also when you get only partial loading, does anything better happen when you click Refresh?
You could try disabling your firewall if you have one. Or do a Control+Alt+Delete to see if anything strange is running. Or clear out your Temporary Internet Files.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I am fine getting into the site and looking around it. It is only when I go to press the "Review Bid" button, in other words place my own bid, it brings me to a page of "rubbish ". If I click refresh, the same stuff comes up. I have already cleared out my temporary files, cookies etc. I think I have done everything possible? Very frustrating indeed. :(

Hi, thanks for your interest! My system resources are 73%. I have NAV and have tried disabling it. Same occurs.

    What is tweekui?

    Tried enabling third party cookies.

P.S. Sunjava took about 30 mins to download and install. I am on a 64k modem.

Any other suggestions would be welcomed :)

    Hello Adele2001

Taking any advice from me is risky buisness --like the blind leading the blind .
But we may muddle through till a techy tags this post.
Another thought do you have any parental restrictions set up?
Ive never used them -It'd be useless for me to speculate on whow to disable it.
Did you set that site as trusted ??
Did you make sure ie checks to see if its the default browser
Its on the connections tab in tools internet options
Also this probly doesnt apply but in the advanced panel uncheck reuse windows for launching shortcuts.
Also did you do the ms scripting update for revalent os , It sertainly wouldnt hurt ---(small download)
Do you have a popup blocker installed?
<<<. I have NAV and have tried disabling it<<<
What do you mean tried --CTRL ALT DEL that sucker on the problem site --see if it helps .. Ive herd of nav and windows update problems ..

tweekui is a non supported ms product . It would be in control panel if installed.
If you just installed it wait till we solve the other problems

Which OS are you running? Is eBay the only site with which you are experiencing difficulties?

Thanks for your suggestions again Lonny. Still no luck.

Brett: I am using Windows 98, Internet Explorer 6, everything has been updated and yes, eBay is the only site I have ever come across this problem. I can find my way around most of the site - it is only when I go to bid on an item that the next page doesn't load.

Any help would be much appreciated. By the way, it did work once for me.

Disable any popup stopper and/or firewall software using the programs internal options (IOW prevent it from launching at startup).

Reboot to DOS and type the following commands (hitting Return after each):-

    smartdrv
    deltree c:\windows\history
    deltree c:\windows\cookies
    deltree c:\windows\tempor~1

Start Windows (but do not re-enable any popup stopper or firewall) and run IE's Repair Tool.

    Good luck!

True if i have ie open and delete cookies temp and history sometimes it doesnt work correctly --so I do it through control panel or the cleanup utility. although Ive herd that everything is still there if your paraniod (about cookies)

    Just curious trying to learn

Ok, done the dos thing, went into repair Internet Explorer and came up with the message "Internet Explorer could not be repaired. Run set up ". Went to run set up again but it says the version already exists.

    This can only get better!!!

A bit more information for you:

The reasons why IE6 cannot be repaired are:

The following versions need to be greater than the existing version:

    MSHTML.dll
    SHDOCLC.dll
    SHDOCVW.dll
    URLMON.dll

Mean anything to you? I guess this must be my problem.

Hmmm. As one old piece of old, worm and twisted string once said, "I'm a frayed knot ".

Ok. It sounds as though something has gone rather awry with the IE6 installation. Go to Tools - Internet Options - Advanced and disable third-party browser extensions. Clean your system with Spybot and then roll-back to IE5. Run the Repair Tool and then re-upgrade to IE6 (BTW - I'm simply clutching at straws with this advice and have no idea whether it'll actually help!).

Lon - less of the "old ", TYM. Save it for Newt :D

    Hello agin
That sounds like version conflics (ie)
Problems when people upgrade from before 5.5
I think it involves deleting ie upgrade records and uninstalling 6
and reverting back to 5.5 then uping again ..(cant remmember)

Wait Until Brett comes back !!!!

    Way over my head
    LON

    As for Brett....................

Well, one more silly question...... how do I revert back to IE5.5?

Do this first I dont understand exactly why but hes da man
rollback simply go addremove and uninstall ie 6--then Run the Repair Tool and then go back to win update and upgrade like suggested.

I woudnt feel confident advising that ---but would hurt to try

    Let us know

OK, I have now unstalled IE6 and now I can't find the repair tool! Internet Explorer isn't even listed in the Add/Remove Programs list! I also ran the Spybot which came up with a lot of stuff though I found I had to reintroduce the BackWeb items as I kept getting an error message on reboot.

Anyway, should I just go ahead and redownload IE6 and install it. BTW, I tried to access the web page again after uninstalling IE6 but same thing happened. I wonder is it an IE6 problem at all???
