Difficult Downloading Recommended Security

    A heads-up...

    I have tried to download the free version of Avast virus protection software and cannot find the link to do so.

    The mirror site or host site is geared to up grades to point the free material is difficult to locate.

    I could not find it...

    I think the software is fine. but the recommendation should forewarn the user...or have the source be more straightforward.

    I think moving from Malware forum was mistake.

    Yes, my original post was ambiguous...

    I used the links provided in the sticky shown in the Malware forum to try to locate the free Avast download, and it was not possible to locate the "Free" antivirus software noted...which I have used for sometime now.

    I thought, as long as the BBS site was recommending it, the mirror or original author would not obfuscate the search...

    Pete, appreciate the advice; however, I used the BBS link and got to same place...give it a shot, and see. Circles around but not free or at least I cannot find.

    Eh... no. as indicated
    That forum only deals with Malware removal.

    Hu? The link for Avast is http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

    The download button is at the bottom of the column "Free Antivirus ".

    Thanks again. I understand about the forum.

    re the free software. I had done all that, several times, and when I reached the cnet window, nothing happened when I clicked on the appropriate link...several times.

    I will try it again...

    If you are using IE 9 try turning off Tracking Protection.

    Don't use cnet Download.com as its pushing out c-r-a-p.

    Most of the internet watchdogs including OpenDNS is blocking the site now. You should try out some other site.

    The problem here is that Avast is linking their free download to Cnet.... Which in itself is no problem, as long as you just download what you came for ;)

    Here is the alternate download link without any c-r-a-p.

    Arie, Cnet Download.com is not allowing you to download unless either you pay them or download a version which has c-r-a-p included by default. I have yet to find a software which is exlusively being hosted by Cnet & therefore I won't venture near it unless they clear up their act.

    Yes. I thought I was an idiot, but trying it again, and failing, and reading others having same, I feel better. No Prozac today;]
