    Hi,

I have found a freeware program that allows me to set different colors to different file folders in Windows XP Pro but I'm looking for a freeware program that will allow me to set different fonts, font colors or file background colors for file names.

I want to be able to set the font color or background color of each filename in a folder so that I can immediately identify what category the file belongs to by its color when I open a folder with a large number of files. I want to be able to do color-coding.

Does anyone know of a freeware program that will do this?

    Thank you in advance.

    Frank

    Hi Peter C,

Thanks for the suggestion about Free Commander. I have downloaded it and am reading it to learn how to use it. It partially does what I want. With Free Commander, I have been able to change the font color of filenames with the same file extension.

But, one of the things I wanted to be able to do was to was to process files with a variety of extensions, and mark them by one colored text or background, so that I know they have been processed while not changing the filename in anyway.

In this way, the file would be unaltered so that it still worked with other systems but would be visibly identifiable as processed irregardless of file extension.

    Regards,
    Frank

Free Commander was the only relevant hit I could find on Google - it was clearly not MS's intention to provide the facility you are looking for :)

    Hi Peter C,

Thank you for your time and efforts to solve my problem. I agree that MS obviously didn't see fit to provide this capability but I was hoping that some outside programer had found a way to accomplish this task and had made the solution available.

    Regards,
    Frank
