Have a look at YouSendIt which is financed by advertising and completey free to use (you don't have to register an account or anything else).

File size up to 1000 MB over encrypted HTTPS.

I have not yet used it ...... ...... but thought that I should pass this tip along!

    You're welcome ...... :) ...... and sorry that I dragged my feet ...... :D ...... !

My ISP has a limit at 10 MB and others at lower than that. I have not had the need to send large files very often but now I know that it can be done.

I'm still trying to find out for how long the files remain on the server. Seven days is my assumption based on what I have found on the web site.

If you are an ICQ user use ICQ

    Follow these steps:

1.Open a message window and click on the Send File icon. You can also drag a file onto the friend's name on your contact list.

2.Browse your computer for the file want to send. When you find it, click Open; the file will automatically be sent.

3.Wait for your friend to accept the file. If you want to cancel, click the Cancel link on your message window.

Not sure I like this part in their Privacy Policy,
Which obviously means they will give email addresses to their affiliated companies, who ever that may be. Personally I wouldn’t want anyone giving my address to YouSendIt or any online company without my express permission.

As well as ICQ or indeed most instant messaging programs, you can use Microsoft’s own Netmeeting app to do a direct transfer of files. You don’t need a webcam to establish the connection.

You could Zip and split the file and email it in parts.

Or you could use a FTP file server on your machine and just send the person a link (and logon details if you want) so they can download it directly from you via their browser.

    McTavish,
you may be right about that!

The assumption being that they write a text hoping that we read other things into it but we never know until we ask ...... :p ...... and I think I will.

I saw that in the privacy policy too. I wouldn't want anybody giving them my email address either. Seems to me an "affiliated" company could be any company with whom they've previously struck some sort of deal with to supply email addresses to. Or, any company they've ever done any type of business with for that matter. I really doubt that these affiliated companies are companies owned by them or the other way around. They would like you to think that, I'm sure, but....

Had a bit of a nose around and it seems YouSendIt has been around a few years and is considered the best of these types of services. Couldn’t find anything negative or reports of email address sharing. Did discover that they were unwittingly used in the past to transfer terrorist videos and the owner just happens to have the same name as a know terrorist – which was no doubt the reasons they have been visited by the FBI.

Seems you don’t have to give out other people’s addresses if you don’t want to. Just give your own address as the recipient, then forward the download link yourself.

Here's a similar program. It has a free version and different levels of paid accounts.

Here are some other sites and I have used them all and have not had any problems with my email address being given out. Some keep the file forever until you delete it, some only keep 7 days and some limit the number of downloads. All have worked great for me.

    www.dropload.com
    www.yousendit.com
    www.sendthisfile.com
    www.streamload.com

There is also Grouper which will allow your friends to whom you invite to your group can scan your computer for any files your wish to share with them and download them direct from you. You can make your group private or public.

Outlook Express allows you to break a large file up into acceptable chunks, which can be reassembled by the receiver.
    OE Tools|Accounts|Properties|Advanced tab|Sending.

    Sending big files

I think I'd just drop it into my Avvenu folder and send them a link to the folder on my PC. I don't know if theres a size limit, but you can set the access to a very finite period of time.
