I have read this a fair bit & yes I even bought a re-man unit that did not come with O/S disk/s, I bought a new copy of XP home OEM & if I was to sell the computer with the COA attached I would have to supply a Genuine O/S disk with it as per the statement supplied.

" in order for your customers to be properly licensed, you must stick the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) label to your customers' PCs and distribute the media and manuals to your customers with their PCs. For more information about system builder Licensing visit the microsoft website "

The re-man unit I bought had problems, mostly hdd & I wanted to upgrade* it (20gb drive but only read 16ish gb) so to do this I ended up having to contact the manufacturer & purchase the software that should have been supplied in the first place, the unit had a COA sticker attached & XP Pro installed.

How many other members have come across this problem and how did you Resolve the problem??

    Regards Jac

*PS: the wife hates it when I get a new system, she says "it's working, don't play with it!!"
But well there's no fun in not seeing what I can do? :D;)

There was probably a hidden partition on your 20 Gig drive with an Image of the OS on it. A lot of OEm's do that and its perfectly legal.

    ;)

You're right - they aren't any fun if you don't muck em' up and change a few things around. How's a guy supposed to learn anything? Oops, I forgot my lines ............. Yes, Dear. :p

    Hi Rockster,
Yes it did have the hidden partion & what ever I tried including the trip to my local didn't work to recover it? Maybe I should have just ducked in & grabbed a bottle instead??
20gig on a laptop running Xp Pro not good to start with, let alone with a hidden partition

Famous last words "What's that, Ok Babe I'll be there in an Minute "
