    Hi.
I fear I fried a bios, please help.

I promised to help a friend fixing his PC. Trouble was it could not recognize a new DVD drive.
The machine is a Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo, Identification number 3356470023.
That turns out to be a Gigabyte Motherboard model GA-6VX7-4X, which is printed on the motherboard too. Revision 1.2

I downloaded the manual and ensured the jumpers (J22) to allow bios upgrade.

Downloaded and prepared bios upgrade diskette. Bios upgrade started but did not complete, the upgrade ended with an error message around 80% done, that it could not write...

PC did not respond to anything, so I turned off the power.

Now it will not boot. Two beeps and black screen....
    Tried different things.
Current status of the machine is all adaptor cards and drives apart from primary HD and graphics adaptor. I have tried with the single memory stick in various positions (3 slots).

Without a bootable diskette in disk-drive it continues to give one short beep. When the diskette is in it gives two short beeps repeatedly.

Fans are spinning and I think I can hear the HD spinning, but the screen is still black.

    No other reactions.
I tried reset cmos procedure as found in another thread (remove power cable from PSU, remove power connector from MoBo, take out battery, short + and - in the battery holder), reassemble power up - no change.

SO... I before I have to go out and buy him another MoBo - If I can find one that fit's the rest of the HW...

    Best regards

    Jens

Pretty sure you killed the BIOS.

You may try calling the manufacturer to see if they can replace the BIOS for you, but most likely you'll be off cheaper if you can just find a replacement motherboard.

The Bios chip is soldered on that old Socket 370 motherboard. You are better off recycling that board and upgrade to something a bit newer. Finding a direct replacement would be difficult.

You can clear CMOS by disconnecting the ATX power header from the mainboard and jumpering JP1 from 1&2 to 2&3, waiting about 10-20 seconds and re-jumpering 1&2. If no go, take a close look at the BIOS chip itself (2MB square chip in lower right corner) - is it soldered or is it in a surface mount socket? If soldered (would have to see it to believe it), buy a new Motherboard but if a chip in a surface mount socket, you can get a pre-programmed chip from Jack@BadFlash.com for roughly $20-$25.

    ;)
