One of our local computer club members has this problem in Windows 2000.
She can successfully dial in and log on to her ISP, but IE can't access any web site. I ran spybot on her machine & deleted a small number of files. Also ran the sasser removal tool, but no virus found. I've installed MS patches from their special CD, & upgraded to IE6, but no joy. I've also created a temporary connection to my own ISP, & tried mozilla with the same result. Neither ISP reports any internet access problems.
I suppose that there's been a registry change, but don't know where to look. Can anyone suggest an answer please?

What happens when you try to connect?

Hi Steve, We either get a 'page not found' , or www.whatever.com not found in a separate message box.

Try running LSPFix (it'll fit on a floppy) to see if repairing the Winsock LSP chain will fix things.

I would first clear all TIF's, cookies and history. Also in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options>Tools>Connections tab>dial-up connection Settings button. Clear the Automatically detect settings and Use proxy server check boxes. If that doesn't help, I would apply either LSPFix.zip or WinsockFixAll.exe(both are direct downloads).

    EDIT
Can't believe it took me 30 minutes to get that reply done  These younguns won't let me finish anything timely! Lets just say I was seconding your suggestion Miz :D

Young 'uns? Hahahahaha...thanks for the compliment, noahdfear. Let's just say that my mother told me she was changing my diapers when she heard on the radio that Japan had surrendered. ;)

And, Dave, with 14 of them, I'm surprised you have time to do anything! My FOUR overwhelm me! You must have an orderly household! :)

One more thing to check are firewall settings. Can she get online other than with IE? (Like OE, or ICQ or something?)

    Johanna
