    I want to change some settings uing the Display Properties Dialog Box (in Windows 98 SE)----my problem is I can't get to the bottom of the panel to press the OK button when I make the changes under the various tabs. I recently started having trouble with the color and size of stuff (including photos) and think I can fix it if I could get to the OK button. It's probably something simple to reset--thanks for your help---Marion McCaleb

    Sounds like your display is to large for your monitor.

    R-click a blank spot on your desktop and select properties. Select the Settings tab.
    Now drag the slide to the right to the next size.
    Say yours says 640X480 then stop sliding at 800X640 apply and check out that applet again.

    Very common thing to have happen.

    Thanks for your suggestion---I had tried this but my problem is that I can't get to the OK button on the SETTINGS dialog panel---I tried doing a left click on the panel and then simultaneoulsy pressing ALT|SPACE BAR which brings up a double arrow---then by using the arrow keys I can navigate to the OK button but when I press ENTER to set the panel size I go back to square one (that is the OK button is off the dialog panel and unreachable). It may be that I need to check my Systray of programs to see if something has somehow become unchecked---do you recall the RUN command for doing this? Until I get this fixed the sizes and color of many objects on my various panel are way off---only a partial set of dots for any color a re present, not the full compliment of dots---regards, Marion McCaleb

    TO apply the change hit the Alt key followed with the A key and you may need to hit the enter key and that should apply it.

    Than again for your help---I tried ALT folllowed by A and nothing happened---I then pressed ENTER and the panel came back to where it was (that is with the OK button off the screen) I tried this procedure for other tabs in the Display Properties dialog box with the same result. Also in START|RUN Ii insereted CONFIG.SYS and got this error message---CANNOT FIND THE FILE CONFIGURATION 'CONFIG.SYS' (0R ONE OF ITS COMPONENTS). MAKE SURE THE PATH AND FILE NAME ARE CORRECT AND THAT ALL REQUIRED LIBTRARIES ARE AVAILABLE. I have been able to get to my SYSTRAY using this procedure before (I think) so I may have to reinstall my Windows 98SE from its CD-ROM unless you can think of something else Is should try---really appreciate your help--Marion McCaleb

    Don't know why the keyboard keys aren't working but....
    ====A few "could do's=====
    You say this predicament is recent?...as in "less than the 5 previous shutdowns" of your comp. and the regiistry backups.

    Restart in dosmode and at the c: prompt type scanreg /restore and hit enter. From the popup choose a dated backup that predates problem.
    ========
    Does a Safemode bootup let you work with the settings?

    =========
    Quote:
    "need to get to systray to see if something has become unchecked "..........by this do you mean.. via msconfig and the startup tab? If so type msconfig on the startmenu_run line.

    If you indeed want to check out config.sys, try typing sysedit on the run line.

    Or try c:\config.sys on the run line.

    =======
    As an extra "Hmmmm ",
    Have you checked device manager to make sure something funny isn't going on with your monitor or display adapter.

    I spoke to soon TRAIN!! After trying your procedure of ALT followed by A again, with pixle size set to 800 x 600 I was able to get to the OK button and now have color restored and everything is working well again---thanks a bunch for all your help!! I can now head from Sierra Vista, AZ where I live, to Tucson to celebrate Father's Day (yes I'm a 73 year old father and grandfather) with my daughter and her family, with nothing to worry about---best wishes, Marion McCaleb

    Congrats Train!

    I see you did have the solution and this post was in good hands....Oh well, I needed something to do for a few minutes and the other alternative solutions may help someone later.

    To Marion:
    Glad all is well. Happy fathers/grandfathers day and a safe trip to ya'.

    Ann thanks for your input which I have printed out in case I have any other problems that haven't surfaced yet. I'm back home in Sierra Vista after a lovely Father's Day celebration with my daughter and her family in Tucson yesterday---best wishes, Marion McCaleb
