    hi!

my internet service provider is comcast. it only connects about 50% of the time, but that's not what i am asking about. when it is trying to connect it brings up a dialup connection box, it is trying to use dial up to connect, i think? i used dial up on this computer about three years ago. when i look at one setting it says the dial up is disabled. how do i make sure dial up is disabled? why would it be doing this?

when i am able to connect through comcast, it is still brings up the dial up box?

    what settings are incorrect?

this can be an annoying problem. Goto your Internet Properties in Control Panel and click on the Connections tab. Make sure "Never Dial a Connection" is selected and remove any dial-up entry that is listed.

If you use PPPoE or PPPoA to connect to your ISP (usually via a USB DSL Modem) however, it is supposed to use the dial-up interface to connect so don't remove the entry in this case, it's doing what it's supposed to do.

    ok. thanks. i'll try that.

i use dhcp to connect, so i don't think there should ever be that dial up box.
