    Hi,
I am running Win-xp pro and SeaMonkey v 1.1.14. I have a dialup ISP and a wireless connection. The dial up I have had for many years. I just installed the wireless connection. It is a d-links router fed from a satellite service to another computer.

I can use the wireless to load most URL's but not all. I have to use my dial up connection to access the Windows BBS web site along with several other sites that I cannot access using the wireless connection.

I have tried many searches with suggestions that did not seem to work.
Sometimes I feel as though I am causing more problems then cures when I try to make the suggested fixes. Have not tried any suggested regedit fixes at this point. Not sure if I am ready to go there yet.

Any help would be appreciated. - Thanks, TRoof

Check the browser network settings and verify that a proxy is not being used.

I went to browser/edit/preferences/advanced/proxies. At this point the 'direct connection to the internet' is checked. After reading the help window it seems this choice means no proxy is in use.

I know I must have checked or unchecked something to get me into this
    predicament.

I was thinking about doing a way back 'Restore'. How far back could l go that might fix this problem and how much data might I expect to lose if I did a far back restore?

Still using my dial up connection to log on to WindowsBBS and others.

    Thanks,TRoof

    Hi TRoof,

(I'm counting on everyoneto correct me :p)

Have you tried going into Control Panel | Internet Options | Connections and clicked on LAN Settings to see if Automatically Detect Settings is checked and Use a Proxy Server is unchecked? Also, is "Never Dial a Connection" checked, or is the whole area grayed out?

Or, Advanced, scroll down to HTTP1 Settings and is "Use HTTP1" checked and "Use HTTP1 through proxy connections" is unchecked?

That did it. I did as you said and checked automatically detect settings and left use a proxy server for my lan unchecked and that did it. Everything seem back to normal.

Problem solved. Thanks for the help and education.

Whoops, I spoke too soon. Since I was able to open WindowsBBS I assumed everything was back to normal. I went to open another web site I use often and low and behold it will not open. Still get the address not found message even when I click on the site from a google search. I guess I am not out of the woods quite yet.

    Thanks- TRoof

    Hello again
Yes I did reboot after making the changes. I went back and checked my settings in the Advanced tab of my internet options.

Here is a run down of the settings.

    1. In the connections tab my dial up ISP connection is in the Dial-up and VPN
    settings box.

    2. Never dial a connection is checked.

    3. When I click settings next to the Dial-up and VPN settings box it opens to my
ISP settings. In the top Automatic configuration section neither Auto detect
settings nor auto configuration script are checked.

    4. Below this is the Proxy server. Use proxy server is not checked. After that
comes my dial up settings and password which are filled in correctly.

Moving on the the advanced tab.

    5. In HTTP1.1 settings. Use HTTP 1.1 is checked and Use HTTP1.1 through proxy
    connections is unchecked.

I am sure that the problem lies in my computer some where. Another computer connected to the same wireless connection in the same room does load all the web sites without a problem. A computer I have not touched by the way.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks - TRoof

Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections Tab > LAN Settings... button > everything there should be unchecked.

I forgot to include connections tab in my rundown. There is nothing checked in the LAN settings. All blank under Automatic configuration and blank under Proxy server.
