I have just upgraded from 98SE to XP. Whereas in 98 when a connection was required for a program (like email) the Dial-Up Connection screen appeared giving me a choice of connections. In XP no screen appears and the program reports an error that it cannot find the host. It is therefore necessary to connect to the internet before running the program. I cannot believe this is correct and there must be a way to make it operate like 98. Help please.

    Dennis :(

The default for IE6 on install is 'Never Dial a Connection' - Tools > Internet Options > Connections - have you checked here?

Yes, no problem there. The dialling screen appears OK for Outlook Express, IE6 and Mailwasher. It does not appear for programs such as WSftp, Cute ftp, Pocomail and other third party programs needing a connection.

I use Terrapin for FTP - under XP I need to make an internet connection first - don't remember how it behaved under 98SE - that was a few years ago!

Maybe CuteFTP, etc are the same - can't really help you further :(
