The dial up connection box pops up looking to connect whenever I open folders on my desktop. I don't know what I did to cause this, but I am at a loss on how to stop it. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Marty 525

    Hi Marty,

This is a long shot, but early versions of Zone Alarm have a bug which causes the Dial up box to appear at odd times - can't remember exactly when. Of course, if you don't have Zone Alarm firewall then this is not a likely solution.

Thanks for the thought, Pete. I don't have zone alarm and I did check to make sure that any programs that try to update were set to not update. Thank you for your help.

    Dial - Up

It could be a couple of things:

    1) Are you sure you don't have a virus/worm trying to dial home?
    2) You might have a Windows or program updater trying to connect and update your system.

Check the services under Task Manager as soon as it opens and see what service is trying to connect.

For anyone that is interested, I found the problem. This problem started after I downloaded critical updates from Windows Update. I checked my add/remove under control panel and all the updates were not there. (I had checked installation history from the windows update site). I used windows explorer and found one of the updates in the internet explorer file - It was Q330994- I deleted it and the problem stopped. I can open any folder on my desktop now without the dial-up connection opening.
