I have a new desktop computer with Windows XP Pro and a 19" Acer LCD display.

For some unknown reason I occasionally get diagonal lines on the display. The only way I can clear them is to manually turn off the compooter.

I have taken it back to Computer Masters here in Oklahoma City several times so they could diagnose the problem buutttt, to date, the problem never pops up when I take it in. The first time they kept it for a week and it NEVER popped up ! Buuutttt, when I bring it home and turn it on, the lines will pop up again randomly. Sometimes when I am online to the office they will pop up. Other times I will be checking email and they pop up.

The problem NEVER happened when I used my Dell 1500 series laptop, which I traded in for this one.

    Any suggestions ??

Hi, Carroll. Welcome to Windows BBS! :)

What are the specifications of the new computer? Brand? Model number?

What is the model number of your new Acer monitor?

Have you checked the monitor's manual for the optimum resolution and refresh rate for your monitor?

Have you made sure your Windows XP is configured to use that optimum resolution and refresh rate?

It does not happen when it is outside your home? Can you take it to work or a friends place and test it there?

When I placed my mobile (cell) phone near my CRT monitor it would cause lines. Consider that other electrical equipment, like a refrigerator or air conditioner may be causing power fluctuations. There may be a problem with the power supply in the computer.

Those are some thoughts if it seems to be intermittent.

diagonal lines on Acer 19" monitor

I did what you said and the compooter shut down when I clicked on "Preferred Resolution ". Soooooooooo, I took it back to the ahole company I bought it from.......Computer Masters in Oklahoma City, so they can let it sit on their test table for another week.

Here's what I'm gunna do...............let them keep it for another week so they can tell me AGAIN that they could not find any problem; take it back home and delete eveything off of it; order a Dell compooter and take the piece of trash compooter to the Paralyzed Vets and give it to them and write it off my income taxes for '08 !!!

I have a BBB complaint with the Oklahoma City office.

The ONLY reason I did not buy a new compooter from Dell is because Computer Masters does all the compooter work for the Doctor that my Daughter works for !!!!

Thank all of you for your help in this matter and I will remain a loyal subscriber to Windows BBS !!!

Have a great & safe Memorial Day weekend.
