My laser printer (brother MFC -7340) suddenly stopped working with my computer. I am able to print by by connecting another computer to the printer. When I open the hardware-devise manager it does not show any devises connected(including hidden devises) .The company is unable to go further until I can get the devise manager showing the devises.

I am on a Dell computer and run WindowsXP

Hi Jerry, I am assuming you run an independent PC?
Why not go to > Control Panel > Remove (your laser printer) > Reboot and see if Windows finds the printer.
If not you may have to use your printer CD and reinstall the software (drivers).
    Cheers Neil.

How is the printer connected? USB connection or Serial?
If it's USB, what happens if you leave it disconnected, start your comp and then plug in the USB printer.
Is there any recognition by XP?
What shows in Device Manager > Ports?

This is connected bu as USB and when you open device mnager it is blank even when you look for hidden items. I have read most of the posts and tried some of the fixes.I ran a virus protection and it was fine.

I had this problem a few months ago. I found a web-site called "Help Desk Geek" which had an article with several different ways to fix it. Like yours, my Plug & Play was working fine. I ended up using their "Edit the registry permissions" procedure and got the problem resolved.

If you can't find Help Desk Geek's article, PM me and I'll send you a copy.

    registry

I found the registry fix on another site and just tried it without success.I also tried a hotfix. It appears it may be time for another computer since printing is a must and I have tried about every suggested fix
