I'm a novice PC'er and brand new to Windows XP. I often hear people talk about various applications 'sucking up' computer resources. How do I determine just how much any particular application is using of CPU resources? (I can easily see how much HD space any application is taking).

Windows Task Manager (ctrl/alt/del) will give you all sorts of information....including CPU usage of applications running (the "Processes" tab).
