They don't make it real easy to tell the difference directly.

    General rules of thumb are
    - if you have to ask, you have 32bit.
    - if you paid less than $4000 you have 32 bit
    - if you have less than 1 Gb of memory you have 32bit.

64bit only runs on the following processors as far as I know
    Apple's IBM-made G5
    AMD's Athlon 64
    Intel's Itanium server chip
so if you have a pentium or any cpu other than those, you have 32 bit.

Thanks - since I fit 3 of the 3 "rules of thumb" I will assume I'm 32 (being 63 in time, makes this sound good to, also).

My understanding is XP Home is 32 bit.
    XP Pro is 32 bit

XP-home is 32 bit only. Nothing else available. No confusion.

Nomenclature is a problem with XP-pro though. The proper term for the latest iteration of the 64 bit version is supposed to be Windows XP 64-Bit edition 2003 but that's long, awkward, and not very catchy so folks often seem to refer to it as XP-pro 64 bit or say "XP pro has a 64 bit version ".

Even worse is that as far as I can tell, 2003 server is available in 32 or 64 bit versions but both are called by the same name.
