I searched this bbs about "detecting proxy settings ".
    It didn't answer my question.
Upon Start-up of IE, there is small writing at the bottom of browser
    "detecting proxy settings "
I kinda know what a proxy is (it's a way to throw your voice on the internet)

My question is... Should I be worried about this "detecting proxy settings "
I don't need a proxy and I HAVE NOT messed with my settings.

flatfoot--Getting the message is no problem. If, however, you have problems accessing the internet when you get the message, then that is a problem.
Some internet connection services require going through a proxy, an intermediate step to connecting directly to the internet. One purpose of doing this is to keep your PC anonymous from outsiders. Or it could just be the way the internet service provider operates.
Check IE Tools| Internet Options |Connection tab, Depending on whether you connect to the internet using dial up or broadband, click on either Settings or LANSettings and see if you have "proxy settings" checked.
As I said, if you have no problems accessing, then you have no problems, and should make no changes. But if you cannot connect to the Internet, then uncheck that setting and see if that helps.
A little more info on proxies is here

Of course, if you are having problems, post back.

    That explained it very well.
I use a cable-net connection supplied by our cable TV people.
I am not having any problems, so I will leave it alone.

Like an Old Man told me once...(true story)
"Know how to keep that car running?
... Stay out from under that hood "
