Does anyone know how to put a shortcut on the Desktop, so that Windows MediaPlayer can preferably automatically play or at least open at a specified radio station?

Right-click and create a new desktop shortcut and paste in the URL of the station - you should be able to copy this from Mplayer file/properties when the station is playing.

Thanks for your suggestion, with which I have had no success, probably because I am doing something wrong, though I can't imagine what.

When the Station (Capital FM) is playing in the My Radio section of WMP, the full URL in WMP Properties is
"http://windowsmedia.com/radiotuner/MyRadio.asp ". I cannot copy and paste this into the new Desktop folder, even after omitting http://, as Windows won't allow the "//" in a file name.

I have had, so far, to settle for making Classic FM a Favorite and giving it a Desktop shortcut. It opens in WMP in any event and as it opens in Featured Stations, I am a few clicks better off than simply clicking my existing WMP Desktop shortcut.

Has anyone else any ideas, please?

You need to paste the URL into the box when the shortcut (not folder) is created. You'll end up with "New internet shortcut" which you can then rename.

Thank goodness that you (and so many other kind and computer-literate people) are prepare so gladly, and patiently, to suffer fools!

Yes, I was trying to open a new folder, rather than an internet shortcut, so was getting nowhere fast.

I now rejoice in a suitably re-named new internet shortcut, which does what I wanted. Thank you so much
