desktop search programs that support OpenOffice 2.0?

Does anyone know if such a beast exists? I suppose I should qualify that by saying a free desktop search program, as I have found a paid one (dtSearch), but that one starts at $199, which is way too steep for me! Yahoo's desktop search supports OpenOffice text files up to v.1.1, but not beyond - I'd really like to find one that will search through my v.2.0 OpenOffice documents as well.

You could try Copernic. It's features page has a link to a listing of file types it supports, and that includes OpenOffice 2.

Shame yahoo!/X1 doesn't search OpenOffice 2 documents though, as I think it is the best desktop search tool.

I'd also posted the query at the OpenOffice forum, and someone there referred me to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_applications_supporting_OpenDocument#Search_tools, according to which there are a number of programs that do the trick - including (gasp of incredulity here!) the built-in Windows search!
I agree with Reggie, though, I wish Yahoo desktop search worked of OO 2.0... maybe in time???

 

I was a little disappointed that there was no sign of development for OpenOffice on the X1 site (the Yahoo tool effectively being a free version of the X1 tool). The look to be aiming at the Corporate market where MS Office is still king.
