All desktop icons displaying software titles, all now show with Windows set icon. Tried to change icons, fails. Error shows at computer switch on,
starting today. I tried a restore procedure, error remains.

No error is displayed, only all icons shown on desktop are all of the same design.

Thank you for replies. Tried out as suggested Start> IconCache.db>Enter.
No change other than one icon reverted back to its original software icon.

I don't see that anywhere in the URL I posted.

I suggest you follow Option 1 and download and run the .bat file.

PeteC, tried Option 1, this downloaded a Register Reviver (chargeable software). I have a similar program Bootspeed. Using my noted entry it ran and showed the DB file was corrected by restarting computer..

I suspect that you hit one of the green download buttons rather than the blue download button in the Option section. Have to be very wary as many web pages, even reputable ones, have download buttons for other (unwanted) software.

Steve R Jones, reading your reply I realise that you are a very pass remarkable person. For my age, my eye sight is very good and never suffered from colour blindness. I only report what I see on the screen.

Yea, Steve's reply can be taken the wrong way (as can mine which I will shortly give), but we are trying to understand how one could "fall" for clicking on an advert instead of the correct link.

You've been online long enough. A 'newbie' could make that mistake.

I'm talking about this specific case where the green (bad) link is FAR away from the desired (Blue) link:

Steve R Jones, matter forgotten, jokes on peoples' physical deformities where never found to be funny or otherwise. Regarding, the download, it just did not happen for me. Auslogics Bootspeed has a tweaks program, this appears to have worked as all icons now displaying as normal. What caused the error remains a mystery.

The green button doesn't show up in my browser (Firefox 26). AdBlock Plus must be blocking it from view.

However, the green download button is huge in Internet Explorer 11 (no ad blocking software installed).
