When placing mouse arrow on any of the Desktop icons, a small blank square appears at the left top hand side of the Icon. Clicking Icon, shows a small tick inside blank box, this opens the selected program. I have not come across this before, what is reason for this and can this procedure be removed?

Control Panel\Folder Options\View\Advanced Settings. Scroll down to Use check boxes to select items and uncheck the box. Click Apply and OK. You can also access Folder Options through Windows Explorer in the Menu Bar click Tools and then Folder Options. Hope this what you are looking for.

Ij50, my sincere thanks for your prompt reply and solution to my query. I must have ticked this box by mistake and probably unaware of doing so. Thank you, Bobby.
