    Win XP Home. The Desktop Icon in the Quick Launch is gone. I remember seeing somewhere, think it was this Forum, that there is a Registry Tweak to restore it. Also someone else had made a program to click to do the same thing.

    If someone will help me with this, I prefer the program rather than getting into the Registry, sure would be appreciative.

    Create the following file in Notepad:

    [Shell]
    Command=2
    IconFile=explorer.exe,3
    [Taskbar]
    Command=ToggleDesktop

    (save as Show Desktop.scf)

    Then drag it to the QuickLaunch bar.

  3. to hide this advert.

    You're welcome Mudd.

    I forgot to mention that when you drag that icon to the QL bar, use the right hand mouse button so you can select to move it, otherwise you'll get a shortcut on the QL bar that is dependant on the original folder. (Not good)

    If you already did it incorrectly, just right click the one on the QL bar and delete it, then do the proper drag move,

    That's exactly what I did! Then I delected the file I saved and, well you explained what did happen. I did it again and used the right hand and all worked. Wouldn't have know if you had not informed me. That's the trouble with we "old beginners ", don't know much and to old to learn much. Just enough to get by with help from this Forum. Sure glad I ran across it. Don't even remember how or when.

    And again I thank you Sir.:)

    Some programs (ArcSoft's PhotoPrinter 2000 Pro, for example) and games open full-screen, hiding the taskbar so that you can't get to the Desktop icon. In this case, pressing either of the Windows keys (the ones with the Windows logo, to the left and right of the Alt keys) + D will toggle the Desktop.

    That only works on an enhanced keyboard of course. I have yet to figure out how to do it on an IBM ThinkPad keyboard, which doesn't have the Windows keys. Anyone know?

    Thanks Jim. My problem was that the Icon was no longer on the Quick Launch Toolbar, even with nothing on the screen. The fix given by the Zephyr fixed my problem. Thanks for the information.

    I understood your problem, Mudd, and I'm glad that Zephyr's post provided the solution for you.

    My suggestion provides an alternate method of getting to the Desktop when you don't have access to the taskbar, or when you don't use the QL toolbar (like me :D). I probably could have explained it a bit better, though.
