My 2-month old desktop: (AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ 3.01 GHz, 3.25 GB RAM. WinXP 2002 SP3) restarts itself from completely off, no matter whether shut down by Windows Task Manager, via 'Start' menu, or Power button push ( I don't use Alt F4). This can occur overnight when no-one is in the room or if I move the mouse the slightest amount.
I have disabled Device Manager Power Options to disallow the mouse to wake the computer from Standby and checked the BIOS to eliminate any obvious autostart enablement.
I can't see any other relevant posts for this problem. Apart from unplugging the power ( and /or the mouse) can anyone help, please?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

Look in the BIOS for an option called: Wake on Lan and make sure it's disabled.

Thanks Steve for the quick reply. I have looked in the BIOS for 'Wake on LAN' and can't find it. Can you specify where to find it, please?

Look in APM configuration under the Power Menu.

My BIOS does not have 'Wake on Lan', but includes similar options .....

Power On By PCI devices (disabled by default) ....

When set to Enabled allows you to turn on the system through a PCI LAN or modem card

Power on by External modems (disabled by default) ....

This allows either settings for Enabled/Disabled for powering up the computer when the external modem receives a call while the computer is in Soft-off mode.

    Check out your mobo manual.
