When using desktop arrange I always arrange my icons in the order in which I would like them to appear on my desktop. I have always arranged the icons whilst I have auto arrange switched on. Once I am satisfied that the icons are the way I wish them to appear I turn off the auto arrange. Each time I boot up my desktop is arranged in a completely different order to the way in which I had previously arranged them. Is there a way to stop the rearrangement of the desktop icons each time I boot up?

Arrange the how you want them and do NOT re-enable auto-arrange. Auto -arrange is useless for manual arranging. Either use auto or not.

Here is Lock desktop which is free.
I have used it for years on many computers. Go to:
    http://www.nthelp.com/50/save_desktop_layout.htm
Download it from where it says here.
    TIP: LOCK DESKTOP ICONS
"In Windows you can lock down the position of the Desktop icons. Place Layout.dll in C:\Windows\System and then click on Layout.reg. From now on, whenever you right-click on the "Recycle Bin" or "My Computer" icons, you can see a new option: "Save [or Restore] Desktop Icon Layout ".
