So last week my primary system bit the dust.....

Here I am on the backup.

Problem - can't get the Deskjet 882 to install.

When I plug the USB cable into the back of the PC up pops the 'found new hardware' only problem....it recognizes it as a 895C.

Consequently when I path out to the HP drivers I downloaded I get the 'contains no information about your hardware message'.

I have run the HP USB cleanup wizard and even manually cleaned out any reference to USB in the registry.

Still detects the printer as an 895 every stinkin' time.

This is a fresh load of 98 on an fdisked/formatted drive. No other printers have been installed. Driving me insane....:(

    Any Ideas?

Here's the relic I'm trying to install this on:

    K62-350
    64MB
    Win 98 FE
    Asus P5A-B AT Board
    Quantum 3GB drive

    Cheers,

    Gary

Just a guess here but HP has some generic drivers that they use (for example, they substituted something like a 565 for the older officejet 500 series - fixed problems with printing from dos based applications). Since your driver ends with 95c, I'm curious as to whether or not is a generic designed to work with FAT32 9x OS? Again, no answer - just a guess that may lead you to the ultimate solution.

    ;)
