I had an HP Deskjet 710C for which I bought a stock of ink (color & black) since I use the printer quite frequently, now the printer has broken and is unrepairable. I tried my cartridges (23 & 45) on an HP Deskjet 845C since physically are the same but different numbers (17 & 15) installed driver and managed to align , print a test page and also a word document so I bought it (second hand). The problem is that now after printing a few documents I got two pop up windows saying that black and color cartridges are not compatible and am now unable to print. The gold contacts on both black and color cartridges are identical as those of the hp 845c.

Is there a way that I can overcome this problem maybe by masking a contact that identifies the cartridge number ? Thank you, regards,

It may be because you have installed software for the new printer. You may get it to work by unistalling the HP software in Add/Remove programs and deleting any HP printers in the Printers folder.
Reboot, go to the printers folder and install the 845c printer from the list of printers. You may be able to run it that way till the inks run out, then get the correct cartridges and reinstall the HP software.

I tried your suggestion, unfurtunately had the same result but I did somewhat solved the problem since I bought a second hand 710C in working order and also for a very cheap price and when my ink stock finishes then maybe I switch to the 845C, thank you for your reply, regards,
