    Hello,

A friend of mine is using the Dell Printer 964 to send and receive fax automatically. He is living here in the US now and is from Japan. He wants to receive fax's from friends over in Japan as it is much quicker than taking the three to four weeks to receive a letter. After help from the Brighthouse support we were able to manage to hook up the phone line to the printer and have it on auto answer in the middle of the night since when it is day here it is night over there.

When the fax is detected the printer receives the fax and disconnects the answering machine.

The other night my friend said that his friend in Tokyo said the machine did not work when he tried to send him a fax.

My question is, do you think there is an "auto off" on the printer if it is not in use for a certain number of hours. I looked everywhere but can't find this infomation. The printer was left on when he went to bed and he could see no reason for the fax not to be received.

I appreciate your thoughts on this.

    Jean,

Did the answering machine receive a fax like message? If not dare I suggest the sender made an error?

Thank you for your help. I just talked to my friend and he said that it was working okay and he did indeed receive a fax yesterday. I told him that it could have been the sender's error, as you suggested, and he agreed.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my posting.
