If your liking continues to be XP-Pro and you want new current hardware choices from a reputable OEM, Dell Vostro 410 series gives you the best of both worlds ... XP installed with a valid Vista install disk (both XP-Pro and Visa Install disks are included). Dell / MS allows you to install Vista at a later date ... and if you change your mind, again go back to XP-Pro.
Depending on you needs and pocketbook, you can deduct an additional $100 to $200 using discount code on same page /url provided.
The Extreme Performance package includes Core™2 Quad Q6600 (2.40GHz,2X4M L2Cache,1066FSB) (excellent reviews - Newegg) (other CPU options available in configurations), 20" monitor, both OS's and additional $200 discount (must keep core configuration over $999.99) AND 3 year Pro-Support/NDB onsite support ... $863.00 plus shipping. If you subtract out both OS costs, monitor, support package, your paying less than $400 for the hardware. Also their is NO bloatware on these systems. If your pleasure is game playing, you may want to up the graphics card, but you could do better from Newegg on that upgrade.

The Inspiron 530 is a nice unit. Hopefully you got that with the 24" Monitor upgrade for system total of $663 with free shipping makes it a cool buy. :) (this deal expired today at 7:00pm EST).
For myself, I'm not ready to move to Vista OS. This is what got me started on XP/Vista hunt. My sister-inlaw needs a new system but will NOT accept Vista. Found refurd's with XP Home for $200 to $400, but 3-5 year old technology and supplier is unkown to me, so I ended up at the Dell site. They do take all the fun out of home builds with their pricing / support... support being one of the key features.... they can hold my sister-inlaw's hand. :D

A lot of manufacturers are shipping an XP Pro install disk with Vista business systems. For example, Fujitsu Siemens and HP. It's allowing me to keep our network use of Vista to a minimum - which suits me fine! :D

This sounds like exactly what I've been looking for....only I may be too late! I'm considering a new PC package (with 22" monitor), but do NOT want Vista. Currently I'm running Windows XP and am very happy with it; have heard too many horror stories about Vista and just not ready to venture into those territories.
I'm a beginner computer person, older in years, but still want to be able to stay up-to-date with my emails, photos, videoing and some (very little) games.

Can anyone tell me where to look, whom to contact or what I'm looking for, when I'm wanting a new computer system without Vista.

    Thanks!

The original deal in my first post is still available.
Could you give us a an approximate price you would like to spend. For Dell Vostro 410 series, the sweet spot for cost is about $900 delivered. This would include a 22" monitor, a 250GB HDD, 3GB RAM, and a very fast Dual Core processor (e8400) . This also includes a 3 year, come to your house warranty for repairs. Can get it down to about $700 with same monitor, but 80GB HDD, 1GB RAM, and much slower processor with 1 year warranty. Both would come with XP Pro installed and a Vista Home Premium CD to install later if you so choose.

The main page link ... Vostro 410 Tower. Please write down additional discounts codes (see orange print on top) applied at check out screen. Keep the core system at $649 to $998 subtract $100 or $999 and above subtract $200.
The best hardware deal is the Extreme Performance group. To configure this click on "Customize it ". From here you can change any of the allowed options. This choice comes with the 3 year ProSupport and 3 Year on site repairs ....
If you like I could walk you through the process via this thread, IM or happy to give you a phone call (can exchange phone numbers via a private message - I'm on free long distant service, so no problem) to walk you through the choices and process.

    Dennis,
Have been to the site, figuring out what I like. A couple of questions. I'm totally unfamilar with Dell; does it have a 'System Restore' or is that what you're (I'm) paying extra for under the 'Online data backup'...just curious.

Is there some way that I could have you contact me, without giving my phone number via this thread?

Lots of questions, still unsure; is Dell the only computer that's doing the Windows XP-Pro OS? Also, with XP-Pro installed, that means that there is absolutely nothing onboard related to Vista, correct?

Upon completion of my system, my total came to over $1500, okay? But it'll only show a $100 discount; I put the 'coupon' number in down at the bottom and nothing. So, what gives? Only getting a hundred bucks off, when it says two hundred? Am I doing something wrong?
Are there any other computer makers that are installing, OS other than Vista???

    1) System Restore comes with XP. When set active, will allow you to restore your computer to an earlier date. Primarily it bbackups system files and registry. Does NOT protect any 3rd party or your personnel data files.
Online data backup. If this is coming along "Free ", OK, but I would never recommend as a paid service. It would be slow because it is generally throttled to a very low speed by the server you connect into. Many free services on the web that provide the same service.

    2) We would ONLY get together on phone (by your permission) to walk you through the online configurator / order placement. This can be a confusing process per choosing options and inputing "Discounts Codes" in the proper location in the shopping cart (this allows a $100-$200 cash discount). I only suggested this as a "Windows BBS Forums courtesy ". If you feel comfortable customizing your own computer / applying extra cash discounts at check out/shopping cart ... great!!
ALL other information should stay in this thread so others can benefit from our exchange of information. Never post on any open forum your email address, phone numbers, or any personnel information. If we need to pass any of this information, we would use private messaging option on this site.
    3) is Dell the only computer that's doing the Windows XP-Pro OS? See "ReggieB" post #3 in this thread. He stated a number of companies offering this option through their business group (as is Dell). I check online for the HP line and they do offer a similar program. Going through their selection and options, Dell was providing a better hardware value along with more options/configuration choices.
with XP-Pro installed, that means that there is absolutely nothing onboard related to Vista, correct?
Correct!! You will receive a Visa install disk if you ever change your mind. Over this summer I've read numerous articles involving Vista. I'm becoming much more friendly to Vista as a viable option. My reluctance is not wanting to relearn a new OS.

Well Houston, we have a problem. UNFORTUNATELY while we were exchanging information Dell discontinued the offer (this occurred during the past 30 minutes because I was constantly checking for offer availability). It has been available for about a week. The extra cash discount codes are no longer available and Dell keeps moving Vostro 410 Tower request to T3400 Workstation. Right now I not sure what system you have on your screen ... and you must have added a lot of nice options to push it up to $1500.00 (this is almost double of what a fairly nice configured system was when we started this quest).
But the XP-Pro OS is still available, but the hardware deal / value may have changed. Would need to know what you have on your screen.

The Vostro 410 Tower offer is back. Free shipping (over $499)
Both OS's - Vista Home Premium with XP-Pro installed.
Free upgrade from Core 2 Duo E7200 to Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor.
Play with the customize screens ... 4 preconfig choices, each allowing customizing. Watch your HDD and GPU upgrades, they can be found lower cost at Newegg.
Warranty's range from 1 Year Basic Limited Warranty and 1 Year NBD On-Site Service
    to
3 Year ProSupport for End Users and 3 Year NBD On-site Service.

Folks ... Please excuse me for bugging you with offers from Dell. But over the summer a number of people ask where they could get new systems without Vista. The ONLY reason I lean toward Dell is they have been around for years (very strong business following), and have acceptable support.

Went back and did another selection, but still running about $1200, I know with the 4GB memory and 500 hard drive, plus the 22" monitor that does kick it up there a bit, but was trying to keep it under the thousand mark. So, guess I'll wait, for the time being. But will definately be checking back with Dell, as I do like their installing of Windows XP Pro and NOT Vista.

Dennis, thanks, ever so much for ALL of your help; really do appreciate it.

Your very welcome, glad to help.
I ran your above config and got it up to $1217 shipped. You must have went for the high end 22" monitor (2208WFP series). It offers under two models for the SAME price ...
    1) DELL ULTRASHARP 2208WFP
    2) DELL SP2208WFP
Choice 2 includes webcam, better contrast ratio, a faster 2ms response, and built in USB ports. I could not find pitch value for either of them. It gives the appearance choice 2 is a better value.
