Dell Latitude D600 (XP) won't recognize hard drive disk for boot sequence

    Currently inherited a Dell Latitude D600 Laptop with XP installed ... was told it was running slower and slower and now will not boot ..Error message is not boot device is available...shows Primary Hard Drive: None... any suggestions?

    Does the hard drive light come on when you attempt to boot the computer?

    Check out the hard drive with the manufacturer's disk diagnostic software - DOS version from a bootable CD (instructions on most manufacturer's website) ....

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Western Digital

    You will have to physically examine the drive to determine the manufacturer. While you are inside the box remove and remake the power and data cable (at both ends) connections.
