At power-on, I receive the Dell splash screen. In the top right hand corner, I have a notce of "F2 = Setup, F12 = Boot Menu." Below the logo in the center of the screen is "BIOS Revision 1.0.13." The computer than proceeds to lock up, and the keyboard is unresponsive. A single beep was made when the computer powered on.

    Can not access anything...help!

    Hi vbg, Welcome to WindowsBBS.:)
Have you tried F2 Setup to see if BIOS is booting from Hard Drive?
What has recently been done to your comp?
Any Hardware or Software additions or Updates?
It will help others to offer advise if you can take the time to fill in your "System Details" and don't forget to Save at the bottom of the page. Cheers Neil.

    no updates

I have not done any updates to this computer within the last couple of days. The last issue I had was one of the drives would not load, the drawer would not recess. Found a work around for that. I have a Dell Insipron 530 with windows Vista home operating system. All was fine then the computer started timing out earlier today so I turned it off then it would not "restart ".
Can not reboot, can not go into safe mode and I hardwired a keyboard and mouse and they do not have "power" at the launch and then when the do "green light" they do not seem to have any funcationality.

I'm guessing you may have a PSU on the way south. Sounds like insufficient power to operate.
Can you swap another PSU or get someone to test the unit for you? Neil.

I might agree, but I wonder if it could be another piece of hardware.

You should see if you can get repetitive results when you start up. One long beep or a continuous beep can mean bad RAM.

You can try removing/detaching whatever hardware you can and reseating it. like the RAM and drive connectors. It might possibly relate back to your previous repair. Try checking the drive that would not "recess" again and all the connections around it (even at the motherboard).

    Matt
