Dell Inspiron 1720 running Win XP doesn't update. When I click on the Express button. I don't get a green scrolling bar that indicates it's checking for the updates. After 40 minutes I ended the task. Any ideas.

Uninstalled CA Security Suite. Installed MSE and enabled Windows Fire Wall. Did sfc /Scannow, reregistered .dll files. Ran a quick scan. Came up Clean. It is now downloading and installing 168 updates. Thanks to everyone who responded. It's greatly appreciated.
