Can anyone tell me how I can obtain a copy of the Dell Bios File 'DV051A04.EXE'.

I am trying to help a friend recover his Dell system and the Dell site will not allow me to download this without installing one of their download programs on my non-Dell PC, and I know enough about Dell to NEVER allow them to do anything like this.

Actually I am surprised that the Dell 'Technical' Support Department have never considered that it is only possible to download any of their 'Support' files, "If the PC is running? "

Thank you for the advice, I certainly will remember this.

    Now back to my problem.

I signed up for a Dell Account.

I clicked on the file to add it to my download list, clicked on the download which installed the download manager to my PC which then told me that I did not have any files to download and I should go to 'Drivers and Downloads' to select files, which I did again, and I re-installed the download manager which then told me that I did not have any files to download and I should go to 'Drivers and Downloads' to select files, which I did again, and I re-installed the download manager and ... I think you get the message, so I certainly would appreciate if anyone could let me have the file 'DV051A04.EXE', because Dell certainly are not going to allow me to get this Many Thanks.

    Did you use my link?

Sorry you had to go through all that. All I had to do was look up file name google. Click on first link found which lead me to the dell download button. Hit the buton and sahzam!: was one click away from the download. I experienced none of the hoops to jump through that you did.

Did take Java enabled and file did come from FTP. Let me find you one that will take less hoops. Give me a minute:

    How about this:

    Many Thanks for the file.

I tried it again and ended up being led through the same rigamarole so I guess my IBM XT Computer may not be able to handle anything like this. :D

Computer make and model will have nothing to do with whether you can download a file or not.

Are you clicking the link above?

Why is this post marked as resolved?

If you can't download the file simply by clicking on it, try a right click "save file as" and choose to download it to your desktop or where is your usual habit for such.

    Hi Super:

My apologies if I marked this as resolved in error, but I thought this was the correct thing to do, seeing as I had received the file from you.

I had tried clicking on the link and at no time did I end up on any FTP Site. I just kept going round in circles, adding the file to my download list, having to install the download manager which then told me that I did not have any files in my download list and that I should go to 'Drivers and Downloads' to select files.

There was no way I could get this file from the Dell Site and when you were so kind as to supply the FTP Link and I acquired the file, I thought the posting should be marked as 'Resolved'.

    Many Thanks for your help.

    Hi BreezyCricket,

Oh good. It was unclear to me that the 2nd link worked for you and you were able to get the file, hence the reason for the "resolved" status of the post.

Phew, such a process to through for such a small file.

Just to round out this and as a windowsbbs member having fellow members best interests at heart I must also stress caution and ask the following:
You are aware of Bios flash risks and did take time to read the How-to on Dell didn't you?

In any case you are most welcome and I was happy to help. While I don't fully understand why this was so much harder for you than me, as the saying goes "stuff happens ". :)

Thank you for the follow-up and continuing the spirit of goodwill I think I should point out that you misspelled 'stuff'. :D

    Cheers.
