I have Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6.0 installed on my computer. When I am on a web page, say, a page from the New York Times, and I click File, Save as, I cannot delete any of the words on that page. Does anyone know of a way to delete words from a saved web page? Thank you very much.

I don't think you can delete the words a web page as you are only viewing it and have no editing permissions. What you can do is highlite the text you want to save, click on the copy button and paste them into another application such as Word, then save that document. You can also print the highlited words by clicking on the "Selection" button in the print setup.

Open the page using notepad and delete the text you don't want. The other alternative is when you save the page, choose to save it as a text file instead of html and then open it and delete what you don't want. You'll lose all html formatting doing this however. What are you trying to do? Are you by any chance trying to print only part of a web page? If so there may be a better way depending on your printer driver. While viewing the page, higlight the part you want to print, click file, print and when the printer applet opens look carefully to see if you have an option to "print selection" or something similar.

You might be able to do it by just opening the web page and then click on the edit tab in IE. Don't know for sure as I don't know what your default editor is in IE. If that doesn't do it, do this. First save the web page. Either save it as an html file or a text file. Don't know what to tell you as to which one because I don't really know what you're after here. If you save it as a text file simply open the file you saved with notepad and edit it and then save it. If you want to keep the html formatting save it as a html file. Then open notepad and click file open and browse to the file you saved. In other words, it would be pretty much the same as opening a file from within any other app. Once you have edited it, save it. When you save it, save it as an .htm file. By default notepad will save it as a .txt file so if you want it to save it as a web page you have to give it an .htm extension. Example: I visit a web page named www.myexample.com. I save the web page, then edit it with notepad. I want it to keep the web page formatting so when I save it I have give it a name with an .htm extension; something like myeditedwebpage.htm. If you add the htm extension the file will open with IE when you double click on it and it should look like a web page. If you just name it myeditedwebpage without adding the extention it will be given the .txt extension by default and when you double click on it notepad will open it . You'll still see all of the text of the page but it will also be filled with html code just as it was when you edited it. If you want to keep the html formatting don't mess with any of the html code. Just edit the text that you want to get rid of or change. Play with it a bit and you'll see what I mean. Are you confused yet? :)

To Zander again: Thank you for your second response. I thought that I would let you know that when I save it as a text file it automatically opens in Notepad and then I could delete and/or add whatever I want. Thanks again.
