I've read if you get a great deal of spam, on way to help is to delete the unwanted messages without opening them such that the spammers don't know your email address is valid. I cannot figure out how to do that in Netscape 4.79 mail. I always must open the email before I can delete it. Is it possible to delete email without opening it? Any suggestions?

I think I figured out a way to do it myself. If you go 'File' then 'Work off Line' then click and delete unwanted email, shouldn't that work? That should delete it without info going back out over the 'net to the spammers so they don't know they have a valid email address, right?

Your idea sounds like it should work.

I have a ZoneAlarm firewall; when I want to do anything with spam, I set ZoneAlarm to "Stop all Internet Activity ".

In Netscape Messenger, don't open the third panel. Just in the list, just select it then delete it. You don't even open the e-mail at all.

it doesn't matter if you open those messages or not...spamers WON'T know if you opened them
what MATTERS...DO NOT REPLAY...like unsubscribe me, or stop sending those...THEN they know, that you exist

Well, sorry to correct you. They would know.
Because they can send some HTMLed e-mail with external pictures. When your browser (or Netscape Messenger) requests the picture, it will sends back your IP address as well as the referral info, and the referral info in this case is the e-mail itself. And it is easy to track which e-mail has been read.
