I'm currently running Outlook 2003, with SP2 on Win XP Pro desktops. All updates are current on clients & Servers.
The owners of my company had set up a delegate to set up appt, meetings, etc., while they are out of the office. This person has left the company. I have deleted her user acct., and purged her mailbox. I did not wait the usual 30 day retention period. She no longer shows up anywhere in my domain, active dir, mailboxes, tombstoned items, she shows nowhere.
However, when her replacement sents a meeting request or appt, etc., and the receipient resonds, Outlook will also attempt to sent the reply to the user that has been deleted.
I've checked their delegates on their computers & on my Exchange server and her name or e-mail address shows up no where. Yet, the system still tries to reply to her old e-mail adderss, and of course comes back "undeliverable ". How can I clean her off my system?

Does the user still show up in the Global Address List? e.g. create a new mail in Outlook and browse the address list.

What version of Exchange are you using?

No, the old user does not show in the Global Address book, or any Contacts, not in my Active Dir, and the Maibox has been purged.
I (as system admin) was also a delegate for the Owners too. When I reply to a meeting request or Appt for one of them, I do not get the undeliverable message for the users old e-mail. Only our new receptionist and another exec sec that are delegates show Outlook trying to send to this old user. I've checked any "Rules" on their PC's, and looked into their personal contacts and the old user does not exist.
My recptionist started a month after the user left the company. Her user profile, outlook acct or anything else did not exist in my AD when the old user was here. but she gets the message that outlook is trying to send the old user a confirmation of the meeting request and the message "undeliverable "
    I am running Outlook 2003

If the removed delegate still receives meeting requests, or if senders of meeting requests receive NDRs, follow these steps first:
    1. In Outlook, when you are using the mailbox where the delegate was previously established, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click Delegates.
    2. Click Add, and then click the delegate that had been removed if the name of the delegate is available. You can select another user in the Global Address List if the original delegate has been removed. Try to establish the same permissions that were previously used, if you know what they are. Then, click OK.
    3. Click OK to close the Options dialog box.
    4. Restart Outlook.
    5. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Delegates.
    6. Click to clear the Send meeting requests and responses only to my delegates, not to me check box.
    7. Click the delegate that you had re-added, click Remove, and then click OK to close the Options dialog box.
    8. Restart Outlook.
    9. Send the user a meeting request. Then, make sure that the meeting request was not sent to the former delegate.

OK to start #1 above, when I click "delegates ", the old user does not show. If I click "ADD ", the old user is not there.
I tried to add a different user and tested sending an appt, That worked, then delete that new user (after a re-boot). the newer user was deleted, but when I send an appt, once again, it attempts to sent to the old user.

As that didn't work, it looks like you're going to have to follow the second part of the knowledge base article using the Mdbvu32 tool. (The knowledge base page doesn't render correctly under Firebox, you may have to use IE to read the full page)

Let us know if following those steps resolves the issue.

I take it the NDRs are the same as described in the article?

I had the same problem - reply to Calendar event sent to a deleted delegated account; I have tried to follow the first part of the solution from the Microsoft article but the check box was always selected and grayed out.
I think the problem was generated because I have used different tools to add/remove the delegate account. Here is the history:

-added account as delegate using Outlook - Tools - Options - Delegates
    -deleted account
-added new account using Active Directory User and Computers - username -Exchange General - Delivery options - Send on behalf

-start receiving NDR for the deleted account
-check box selected and grayed out in Outlook - Tools - Options - Delegates

-removed new account from delegates using Active Directory User and Computers - username -Exchange General - Delivery options - Send on behalf
-added new account as delegate using Outlook - Tools - Options - Delegates
-check box not grayed out anymore
    -cleared the checkbox
-no more NDR for the deleted account

    :)
