My 6 year old deleted my Netscape profile and all associated files a few days ago. After having a good cry about it, I took my computer to a data recovery place and they were unable to find the directory with my Mozilla profile anywhere on the hard drive. Since no data was written to the hard drive after I discovered that the profile had been deleted, I would think that it should still be there somewhere. (After all, the hard drive is intact, there isn't any corruption, no viruses, etc.) Is there any place on the computer other than the "C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles" directory where I might be able to find something related to my profile -- like my email address book or bookmarks? Or is everything related to my email and browsing preferences stored in that one directory? Unfortunately my last back-up is 10 months old. (Bad, I know!) Is there any undelete software that you know of that works well with this type of deletion? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Michelle

This may work. I have had good luck with programs from these people.

To Michelle. How did your son delete the profiles, which are hidden, by default?
All the profile information should be the directory which you gave. And, of course, if any deletion occurred, it should be in the Recycle folder (unless you are very neat!).
If you recover from this, you should, periodically, make a copy of the entire xxxx.slt folder, as well as having backups of the address books, exported as .ldif files, and the bookmarks.html file. And these backups should be updated as frequently as possible.

He deleted the profile from within Netscape's Profile Manager. He clicked on "Delete Profile" and then also clicked on the button to delete all associated files. So nothing went into the recycle bin. :(

    Michelle,
it does not sound good. That is, usually, the way to remove everything.
Had he chosen to delete the profile and not the files, you would have been able to get everything back. I don't know about the program listed before. You can recover only 64Kb file size with the Demo program. I had terrible luck with similar programs. Unless someone has a better idea, I would just grin, and bear it. Create a new profile, and take it from there. The old backup should have reasonable bookmarks and address book.
And, don't forget to back up profile, and individual files.
