Resolved Deleted Messages in IMAP folders don't purge

Using OE6 with XP Pro SP2, all updates applied. I use OE6 to process two email accounts. The ATT email account works differently than the IMAP account.

When I delete a message from ATT inbox, the message is deleted from the inbox and is transferred to the 'deleted items' folder, which I can later delete entirely.

When I delete a message from the IMAP inbox a line is put through the header and marked for deletion, yet the message is not deleted or moved. I need to use the Edit/Purge function to delete the messages form the IMAP inbox.

Is this normal behaviour? I seem to remember in the past (perhaps a prior version of OE) that deleting a message from an IMAP inbox actually deleted it.
