Deleted mail in mozilla mail

It seems I still have my old mail in folders here - C:\Documents and Settings\name_edited\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\5cf7nlqy.slt\Mail
even after "deleting" it....
Some folders are as large as 43 MB.......
Is this normal, or is there some setting I have missed?

When you deleted your Mail in Mail & Newsgroups, unless you also "Compact" the folder, the Mail remains on your HDD. The "Compact" feature is located here: File | Compact Folders.

Yes, if you say, "oops ", and want it undeleted .
It is cumbersome, I grant you. Yours truly has replied to quite a few e-mail from the Trash folder, if I did not think that the original merited saving.
I always, out of habit, delete, but recheck what is deleted, and compact manually, before closing that account.
