deleted in error

    i had several music files duplicated on my computer and in error i have deleted my music files. the files were to big for the recycle bin and the computer (well me) when asked permanately deleted them. please tell me they our still somewere in my computer?

    When a file is deleted only the reference to the file in the file system (FAT32 or NTFS) is removed - the file itself is still on the hard drive, but the space occupied by it is marked as available and the file can be overwritten at any time.

    There is a good chance that you can recover some if not all of the files using a file recovery program - try Recuva - freeware.

    problem solved

    sven and pete c many thanks, using a combo of the 2 programes 1,650 music files have now been recovered and i am now in the process of putting them back into there respective folders. once again windows bbs has come to my rescue its the one place i always recomend.
