When I was trying to organize my bookmarks I had problem cutting and pasting bookmarks into a new folder. The function ended up deleting a folder though it showed it was valid when the organize bookmark function was running. When I closed the brower and reopned the folder and its contents were gone. Is there any way to retrieve the deleted bookmark folder and its contents?

Firefox, automatically, backs up the bookmarks.html of the past five days.
In WinXP the path is: C:\Documents and Settings\usernamei\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxx.default\bookmarkbackups
Like all more recent programs, the Profiles are in hidden folder. Once you realize that open the bookmarkbackups folder. You will find dated files like:bookmarks-2007-09-12.html, right click on the icon, and select:Rename|type on it bookmarks.html. That is the same name as the present file, and you will be asked if you want to replace. Say yes, and the 9-12 file will replace the messed up file.
I suggested 9-12 because you, probably, had the problem after that day, but you can select any day earlier, if you wish.
I am worried about the cut and paste, because mistakes can be made, and you are left with nothing. It is best to select copy/paste, and then delete the duplicate bookmarks after you are done.

Thanks - it worked. Tried the cut and paste, but it was still giving problems. Used the move function to move the bookmarks to a new folder. The renaming of the folder on a previous date did not replace the exisiting bookmark file in the xxxx.default folder. I had to phsically move it into that folder and name it just bookmarks for this to work.

If you are talking about the backup file, it is already in the xxxx.default folder.
I guess that since the backup file is inside the backup folder, you may have to move it out, Then renaming it would give you the option to replace what you had. Another way, to preserve the original backup file would be to copy, then paste outside the the backup folder, and then renaming the file.
